Greetings and salutations, rockers! It's windy and it's absolutely tipping it down here on the south coast, which brings us nicely to our next entry... sliding in, and everyone's favourite guilty pleasure, Slippery When Wet.
Released in the summer of 1986, Slippery When Wet is the third studio album by the New Jersey rockers, Bon Jovi. The album was an instant commercial success, featuring some of the band's most iconic songs, "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive". It is considered to be Bon Jovi's commercial breakthrough, and their most important album to date.
Slippery When Wet showcases a hungry band expanding on its musical craft. This explosive and timeless collection of songs (and videos) took the band to new heights, cementing their place as one of the leading rock bands in the world. From the opening organ swell of "Let It Rock" to the confetti-ready finale of "Wild in the Streets", Slippery When Wet is the band's most enduring album.
Many of you probably see this as a commercial pop-rock album, but let's just put that to one side for a second and take a moment to appreciate just how good (and relevant) Slippery When Wet actually is. This is an album that opened the door to rock music for me (and millions of other people around the world), albeit in a soft kinda way, and if it hadn't been for Bon Jovi, who knows how much rock and metal music would have remained undiscovered. I dread to think! Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of soft pop-rock to set you on your way to grittier and heavier things...
So, with all that said, is Slippery When Wet a worthy addition to our top 20, or should the previously omitted New Jersey have had more of a say in this poll? Let us know in the comments section below...
Right, that's me done and dusted until Friday. Terry will be taking you through the next three entries, before Graeme joins the party later this week.
Have fun and keep rocking!
